iMac G4 Memory Upgrades

iMac G4 memory upgrades are fairly easy to perform provided you know how to access the memory slots within the computer. Turn off the computer and remove all cables attached to the computer except for the power cord. Lay the computer on a soft towel so that it is face down.

On the base of the unit are four screws. Loosen those screws to remove the access panel. Do not remove the four screws revealed by the access panel--those screws are vital to maintaining temperature balance within the computer. At this point, unplug the power cord and remove your DDR memory module from its anti-static package.

Inserting the iMac G4 Memory Upgrades Properly

iMac G4 memory upgrades are inserted much like memory modules in laptop computers. The module is inserted at a 30-degree angle until it is firmly seated in the memory slot. The module then rotates down towards the base of the computer until it latches into place.

With the memory module in place, return the access panel to the base of the computer by screwing it back into position. Reconnect all cables and then reboot the computer. It should recognize the new memory automatically. One special note--throughout the entire iMac G4 memory upgrades process, be sure to touch a grounded piece of metal, such as the internal frame of the computer, immediately prior to touching any internal computer components.
