iMac G3 Memory Upgrades
Macintosh makes iMac G3 memory upgrades remarkably easy considering the compact nature of its original iMac design. The only tool you need to perform iMac G3 memory upgrades is a flat blade screwdriver. In a pinch, a coin will be sufficient.
To begin, unplug all cables (except the power cable) and turn the computer so that the screen is facing down. It's a good idea to place a soft towel under the screen to avoid scratching it. Using the screwdriver, turn the latch on the access door so that the access door can swing open towards the screen. Before proceeding, touch the metal shield visible inside the latch area to dissipate anti-static electricity that you may be carrying. Disconnect the power cord and remove your new memory from its packaging.
Adding iMac G3 Memory Upgrades
iMac G3 memory upgrades are inserted into their DIMM slots just like they would be on a full-sized desktop computer. Press the latching tabs out away from the center of the slot and insert the memory module perpendicular to the slot's mounting base. The memory module should latch into place. If you have trouble, make sure that the notches on the memory module are lined up with the notches inside the memory slot.
With the memory installed, the iMac G3 memory upgrades process is almost complete. Close the access door and return the computer to an upright position. Plug in all cables and restart. The computer will automatically recognize the newly installed memory module.
