iBook G4 Memory Upgrades
To perform your own iBook G4 memory upgrades, you need to make sure you choose the right memory. The iBook G4 comes with one 256 MB DDR SDRAM installed in the logic board. It also has an additional memory slot that will accept a PC2100 DDR 266 Type RAM module with as much as 1 GB worth of memory. As is the case with most notebooks, iBook G4 memory upgrades must be 200-pin SODIMM modules.
To add memory, first unplug the computer and remove the battery. Then, release the keyboard by sliding the two plastic locking tabs towards you. The keyboard should lift easily at the back and rotate forward so that it can be removed completely. If you are unable to remove the keyboard, locate the keyboard locking screw next to the Num Lock key and turn it 180-degrees.

To access the memory slot, you must first remove your AirPort Extreme Card by lifting the wire bracket that holds the card and detaching the card's antenna. You must then remove the four screws that hold down the RAM shield and lift the RAM shield out. Set both the RAM shield and the AirPort Extreme Card to the side.
Your memory module should be inserted into the SODIMM slot at a 30-degree angle. Press firmly so that it is seated completely with no connectors showing. Use the notches on the module as a guide. Once inserted, rotate the module down so that it lies flat against the bottom of the computer. Securing clips should lock it into place.
