USB Flash Drive
A USB flash drive is a portable hard drive that can store up to 2 GB of data. What makes USB flash drives unique are their size. A USB flash drive weighs approximately as much as one car key and is no bigger than a pack of gum!
USB flash drives are compatible with almost any computer that has a USB port. Simply plug the drive into the port and access the drive's contents as you would any other folder on the computer. To transfer files, simply drag and drop the files from the USB flash drive's folder to any location on the computer's main hard drive.
Other Benefits of USB Flash Drives
One of the other benefits of USB flash drives is that they allow computer users to share information easily. Large documents can be passed from one user to another, and the hot-swappable nature of USB means there is no need for any long configuration process like you would find when using an external hard drive. Plus, external hard drives contain moving parts which can be damaged in transit, while USB flash drives contain no moving parts whatsoever.
USB flash drives can even be used to store secure data. Many manufacturers produce flash memory modules that can be protected with a password. Some even allow the user to partition the flash drive so that one part of the drive is available to the public while another portion is kept private. The small size of USB flash drives means they can also be easily locked away for added security.
