PC2700 DDR RAM

Now that Intel has embraced DDR RAM technology, modules such as PC2700 DDR RAM have seen a huge surge in popularity. DDR RAM has already become very affordable and has replaced older technologies as the industry standard. Obviously, quality brands of PC2700 DDR RAM may be more expensive, but the extra money is often worth the piece of mind that comes with buying quality.

PC2700 DDR RAM takes advantage of both the uptick and the downtick of the system clock. With older RAM modules, the CPU could either read data or write data during one clock cycle. With DDR RAM, the CPU reads data during the uptick and then writes data during the downtick, effectively doubling the modules speed. PC2700 DDR RAM is rated at 166Mhz, doubling its speed means it is essentially running at 333Mhz. For this reason PC2700 DDR RAM is sometimes referred to as DDR 333.

Installing PC2700 DDR RAM

Installing PC2700 DDR RAM is extremely simple, but there are some dangers. You should wear an antistatic wristband and handle RAM modules with care to avoid destroying them before they are even used. You also need to make sure the computer is unplugged. It's a simple step, but forgetting it can have some dramatic consequences.

When you look at the motherboard, you will likely notice where the current RAM is installed. Additional RAM will usually fit in a slot adjacent to the current RAM. It should only fit one way, but it will require some pressure to cause the retaining clips to snap into place. It's that simple! Power up the computer and your new PC2700 DDR RAM will be active.
