PC2100 DDR RAM
PC2100 DDR RAM is incredibly fast RAM that can be 30 to 40 percent faster than PC133 SDRAM. PC2100 DDR RAM and other DDR RAM modules take advantage of both the rising and falling edge of the system clock. Normal SDRAM and previous RAM modules utilize only the clock's rising edge.
The need for DDR RAM technologies has become readily apparent over the past few years as processor speeds have increased dramatically. Bus speeds of SDRAM are at their limit now, and the next generation of microprocessors promises to push the older RAM types even closer towards the edge of extinction. While there may be more economical and powerful RAM systems that eventually rule the day, for now, DDR RAM is at the forefront of RAM technology.
Considerations When Buying PC2100 DDR RAM
Because PC2100 DDR RAM is relatively new, many older computers do not even support the technology. PC2100 DDR RAM requires special pinouts that did not exist just a few years ago. Check your computer manual before upgrading to DDR RAM modules to make sure they will be compatible with your system.
DDR RAM is very fast and is already comparable in price to older technologies. DDR RAM has become extremely popular in recent years and is the de facto standard for new motherboards, although it will likely be replaced by DDRII soon. For now, though, DDR RAM is the most popular high performance memory available.
