Memory Benefits for Servers
Memory benefits for servers are not surprising. By adding DRAM memory to an existing server, companies see dramatic increases in data throughput and in the number of HTTP requests their server can handle at one time. If you notice lags in performance when communicating through the Internet, server memory upgrades may solve your problem.
It is not uncommon for a business to purchase servers with too little memory. Servers are expensive and a significant outlay of capital is required to purchase one. Once installed, the corporate infrastructure may function without problems for some time, but as the business expands it soon outgrows the original server.
Added Memory Benefits for Servers
By upgrading an older server, companies gain the added benefit of increased stability. Todays newest RAM technology includes ECC RAM, a fantastic error correcting RAM type that utilizes extra bits to double check the RAMs data on a byte by byte basis. ECC RAM is too expensive for personal computers, but it is well worth the money for servers.
Speed is one of the memory benefits for servers that will need to be sacrificed slightly when using ECC RAM. Because it spends a small portion of its clock cycles double-checking data, ECC RAM is one or two percent slower than standard RAM. With ECC RAM, however, the increased stability makes up for the lost speed related memory benefits for servers.
