Installing Laptop Memory
Installing laptop memory is similar to installing desktop memory. The main difference lies in the fact that everything inside a laptop computer is smaller and more cramped than it would be in a desktop computer. Installing laptop memory is not difficult, but it takes a steady hand and a keen eye to do it well quickly.
The process for installing laptop memory will differ slightly depending upon the laptop model, but the procedure is always basically the same. First and foremost, you must be grounded before installing any memory. A wrist wrap or another static controlling device should be used to prevent electrical charges from damaging any of the laptops components.
Installing Laptop Memory Step-By-Step
With the computer turned off and the battery removed, open the computer by unscrewing the connecting screws on the underside of the computer. Locate the memory socket and insert the SODIMM module into it at an angle. There should be a notch on both the socket and the memory module to make sure everything lines up. Apply firm pressure. If needed, rock the module slightly back and forth to make sure the fit is secure.
Once the memory is firmly in place, press the module down towards the laptop so that it lays flat. There should be clips on either side of the memory that lock it into place. Reattach the computer cover and then reboot. The computer should recognize the new memory and begin using it immediately.
