Dell Optiplex GX260 Memory Upgrades

Dell Optiplex GX260 memory upgrades are not uncommon because, when compared to other desktops in its class, the Optiplex GX260 underperforms. The Dell Optiplex GX260 comes with 256 MB of RAM, half the RAM found in most other computers with similar processing power. Fortunately, Dell Optiplex GX260 memory upgrades are extremely easy to do.

Before performing any upgrades, it is important to take a few precautions. Always unplug a computer before working on it and wear an anti-static wrist band. Also detach any peripherals like printers and scanners. By the time you open the computer, nothing should be attached to it.

Inserting the DIMMs with Dell Optiplex GX260 Memory Upgrades

Press the clips on either side of the DIMM connector slots out. These will pop back into place once the module has been correctly inserted. To insert the new RAM, line up the module and the connector slot and press down firmly. When the snaps have closed, close the computer cover and reboot.

Upon restarting, an alert will pop up letting you know that the computer cover was removed and replaced. The chassis intrusion detector must be reset. You must also go into the "System Memory" by pressing F2 so that you can verify that the memory is working. If it appears that it is, press escape and then run "Dell Diagnostics."
